Medical camp draws close to 300 people for treatment

On Saturday, May 21st, 2011, children and adults walked miles to take advantage of basic treatment that was offered at the URF’s first medical camp. URF organized a team of two doctors, three nurses and a lab technician who worked tirelessly to see that every patient was attended to. Several referrals were made to the hospital in Masaka and the patients were transported by the URF’s new medical van. The biggest percentage of cases seen involved malaria and a few other illnesses such as flu, diarrhea, syphilis, back pains, etc. We also teamed with Uganda Care from Masaka who assisted with the HIV testing and counselling. The big turn out was an a clear indication of the urgent need for medical care in the community. Another medical camp is set for August when we have a team of six medical students from University of Minnesota. On-going treatment is available at the new clinic which opened in May.
