On April 23rd, 2016, URF opened the Mirembe Children’s Home on the same campus as Hope Academy. Mirembe is a family centered home and orphanage providing a safe haven for vulnerable children.
At the Home the kids have access to quality education at the Hope Junior School, healthcare at URF clinic, life skills training, and social support.
The Home opened with 16 children and there is space for about 10 more kids. There is a full time care taker assisted by other URF staff as well as the older students at Hope Academy.
Majority of the first batch of kids came from child-headed families that URF has been supporting for several years now. We realized it would be much safe for the kids and also easier for us to offer adequate support and mentorship when they are together in a supervised home.
