Sewing machines: paving way for vocational skills for youth and women

This February we have secured two new sewingmachines and two new knitting machines. There is currently four sewing machines for general sewing purposes. From now on, all studentuniforms and sweaters will be made on campus. This project saves us money. We also hope to secure contracts from other local schools to make their uniforms and school sweaters for them as a source of income. Students with interest in tailoring will also gain a skill that can earn them a living after school.

It is critical for URF to invest in programs that train students in practical trades because the kids we deal with come from rural community where there fewer employment opportunities. They ought to come out of our programs with practical and entrepreneurial skills they can use to start their own small businesses.
