Powering schools, orphanages, and communities with solar
In the summer of 2018, working with our friends and partners from Richmond, Virginia and Virginia Tech engineering students we are harnessing the power of the sun to power up a school, orphanage and community church in Masaka.
Phil, a retired engineer from Dominion Power has been working as a mentor for Virginia Tech students for the last ten years guiding them through the design and implementation of projects consisting of solar systems in Uganda.
We are grateful for the long-term relationship between URF and Virginia Tech to bring power to communities where access to electricity was a major challenge. These solar systems have enabled schools to run computers, power a welding machine for vocational training, light up classrooms so students can learn at night, and much more.
